Artist and oeuvre: See website of the photographer and installation artist. York der Knöfel was an important personality in the autonomous underground art scene of the GDR. Artwork by Knoefel has also been shown in the exhibition „Gegenstimmen“ (Voices of Dissent) at Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin (2016) as well as in the 2012 exhibition „Geschlossene Gesellschaft - Künstlerische Fotografie in der DDR 1949-1989“ at Berlinische Galerie. Slaughterhouse sceneries and photographs of dead animals were central to the work of York der Knoefel.
