Artist and oeuvre: In 1972, avantgarde artist Bertram Weigel participated in the legendary documenta 5, curated by Harald Szeemann. The year before, in 1971, Weigel took part in the "eat-art" happenings shown in the gallery Spoerri in Dusseldorf and participated in a "hunger performance" on the occasion of an exhibition by André Thomkins.

In 1976, Bertram Weigel was awarded the Villa Romana fellowship. During his stay in Florence, he died in a car accident at the age of only 26 years.
